The Wilderness Basics Course is a comprehensive course for anyone who plays in, works in or loves the outdoors. It is a great fit for those just getting their start in the outdoors, or those wanting to brush up on a few skills. Starting with 4 evenings, students attend presentations, lectures, and demonstrations in a classroom setting. Students will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on skills each class session. Then, on the last day of the course, students will put their skills to the test on a full day outing somewhere along the Wasatch front, location TBD.

Class sessions offer an extensive review on a wide range of topics that pertain to what you will likely encounter in the outdoors. You will learn about:

  • Outdoor ethics
  • The rule of 3’s

  • Tents & shelters
  • Finding & treating water
  • Fire building
  • Finding direction & land navigation
  • First aid & CPR
  • Camp hygiene
  • Survival mindset

  • AND MORE!

Upon completing the lectures with 100% attendance, participating in the outing and demonstrating skills proficiency, students are awarded with a certificate of completion.
